French wash

French wash is applied to the wall in a rough manner cross hatch with a wide brush and then removed with the use of a damp muslin cloth. This creates a soft, broken colour effect which, if done with care, looks exquisite.

Fresco wash is a simple but refined technique – applying paint in two steps: a fine layer of paint mixed with medium and applied by a flat sponge or with a wide flat brush and softened. The pattern must be random and colours chosen with care in order to maintain freshness and a sense of movement in the colour wash.
